📘 Episode 1: Downvent Sucks
🧃 Summary
The series opens with a crash—literally. Downvent’s set at a basement-level gig falls apart in real time. Broken gear, blown timing, maybe even a sprained ego or two. The crowd’s not just cold—they’re hostile. Someone shouts the episode’s title from off-panel: “Downvent sucks!”
It’s bad. But not the kind of bad you walk away from.
After the show, the band stumbles into Static Static Records to kill time, question their choices, and maybe steal a sticker. Instead, they meet a blue-haired girl behind the counter who already knows who they are—and doesn’t seem impressed.
She’s direct. Quiet. Sharp. She remembers one of Dylan’s basslines from a bootleg. She raises an eyebrow at Dirk’s tangled mess of a flyer. She introduces herself as Luna.
And without anyone realizing it, everything starts to shift.
🎨 Featured Scenes
- The disastrous “Downvent Sucks” show
- First canonical appearance of Luna Wren
- Dirk holding a crumpled gig flyer where “Hell of a Life” is crossed out and replaced with “Maybe Next Time”
- Interior of Static Static Records: sticker walls, zine bins, cassette cases, and a busted CRT showing old NBR footage
📎 Lore Notes
- This is the first visual introduction to Nayasa Bay’s DIY scene (Static Static, handmade flyers, analog chaos)
- Dylan says almost nothing, but watches everything
📘 Presentation Note
This episode is presented in black and white, matching the raw, photocopied zine energy of Downvent’s early years. Later issues will shift to full color as the story—and the band—begin to evolve.
Think of it like a demo tape with ink stains. It’s not clean, but it’s real.
