πΈ Bad Roof
Filed by L. Wren
Entry #007 β Partial. Most press coverage has been lost. This version is based on flyers, cassette rips, and the things Stan wouldnβt say out loud.

βThey played like the roof wasnβt supposed to hold. And maybe that was the point.β

π οΈ The Rise
They were first.
Before Downvent. Before the Spill collapsed. Before NBR had a signal strong enough to reach Graveline.
There was Bad Roof.
They were the first band from Nayasa Bay to get signed β not just a tape distro or cassette deal β a real contract.
Their debut album dropped just before everything else did.
They were the first ones out of the basement.
And the first to burn.
The first time I saw them, Jace Hollow broke two strings, bled on the mic, and thanked everyone for coming.
There were maybe twenty people there.
That was the loudest the Spill ever felt.
π€ Original Lineup
- Jace Hollow β Vocals
- Stan β Guitar
- Finn β Bass
- Micah β Drums
π Discography
In the Water Damage (1993)
Released under Thirteenth Door Records, just before the collapse.
Not a perfect album β a little rushed, a little raw β but it had a pulse that felt like it belonged to all of us.
Tracks like Sunburner and Give Me the Concrete started getting college rotation outside the Bay.
People said they were going to be the next Soundgarden.
Then Jace died, and the rest of the sentence never landed.
There are live tapes. Outtakes from the label sessions.
The label repressed a single with a black wraparound sleeve and no liner notes.
They didnβt re-sign the band.
π―οΈ Fallout
Jace died in the alley behind the Whispering Stacks.
Some said it was inevitable. Some said it wasnβt his fault.
Stan never said anything. Just packed up and disappeared for a while.
Bad Roof ended like a power outage β sudden, silent, everything still buzzing after.
π Scene Echoes
- People still stencil βTHE ROOF NEVER FELLβ on alley walls.
- A candle burns under Jaceβs mural in Graveline Park.
- Stan joined Downvent a year later. Some fans still havenβt forgiven us for that.
