πŸ“Œ Fall 1989 β€” Formation of Downvent

Filed from a torn notebook page taped to the inside of a practice amp. Verified by Derek, denied by Dirk.

It wasn’t a big moment.

No handshake. No manifesto. No clean date circled on a calendar.
Just three kids β€” Dirk, Dylan, and Derek β€” trying to be louder than what was happening at home.

They met in a garage behind a half-burned duplex in west Nayasa Bay.
The kind of place where the fuse box sparked when you turned on two amps at once.
The kind of place that already smelled like sweat and mildew and summer-long frustration.

Derek had a kit. Dylan had a borrowed bass. Dirk had a left-handed guitar strung upside down and a voice that sounded like it didn’t trust itself yet.
But when they played? Something clicked.

They didn’t have a name.
They didn’t have songs.
They had volume.

🎢 Setlist (probable, not confirmed)

  • Wallshine (early version)
  • Track 3 (no lyrics yet)
  • A cover of β€œNegative Creep” that fell apart halfway through
  • Dirk yelling something no one recorded
